What is a Core and a Core Box?

Often when discussing tooling required to make a casting with a customer, the following question is asked: What is a core and what is a core box? A core is a preformed sand shape inserted into the mold to form the interior of a casting, i.e. a hole. Below are examples of No Bake cores.
