Foundry Sand Testing
The foundry sand section of the lab focuses on evaluating the quality of sand used in metal casting.
- Grain size distribution: The grain size distribution test ensures that the sand has the correct texture and particle size to produce high-quality molds.
- Permeability: The permeability test measures the sand’s ability to allow gases to escape during the casting process, ensuring proper venting in molds.
- Strength and friability: This test assesses the durability and ability of the sand to withstand the mechanical stresses during mold preparation and pouring.
- L.O.I.’s (Loss on Ignition): The L.O.I’s test the amount of residual binder in reclaimed sand.
Spectrometer Analysis
- Elemental analysis: Our elemental analytics accurately determines the various elements in all iron samples.
- Quality control: Quality control checks ensure that the materials meet the specific alloy ASTM standards.
- Trace element detection: Trace element detection identifies and quantifies trace elements that can affect the performance of materials.
